It is required to install this software on the SP2010 server.
There is a separate release for SharePoint 2007

Closed Task: Update the 'update location' [637]

At the moment the update location is http://www.hristopavlov.net/SPTraceView/. This needs to be changed to a location hosted in this site.

Investigate the best way to achieve this. The autoupdate functionality is one of the most important features and must stay in SPTraceView. For the first CodePlex release I will need to put the release on my website and update http://www.hristopavlov.net/SPTraceView/Updates.xml as well which I will do when the project is ready for release.

SPTraceView asks for the Windows SharePoint Tracing Service to run.

Service runs, but on SharePoint 2010 Beta SPTraceView does not work.

Is SharePoint 2010 support planned, or generally asked, are any further releases of this great time-safing tool planned?

After changing the filtering settings for messages (to exclude a certain text), I still receive pop-ups containing that message. Please see the attached screen shots.

Add a button to clear log.
Large log freezes the application and the machine. Find a solution: auto-truncate by size, time interval (older than X seconds/minutes).
Would like to see a auto-scroll window. Same a stock watch. Mouse hover holds the auto scroll, double-click opens log, The reason for that is that popups go away too quick. Scoll-will show them for a bit longer.

For the auto-scroll window I recommend using DebugView which will allow all that plus another level of filtering as needed.
If you do not need the log files you can disable the logging to the log file itself.
Also SharePoint itself save to the log file with configrable roll over based on time interval.

Hi,

just checked your issue and found the following:
The system uses the filter value to build a Regular Expression.
Based on the testing I did so far the RegEx is not working for multiline messages.

I am currently working on my spare time to upgrade this tool to SP2010.
currently this is the only tool that I know that dirrectly connects to the ETW messaging system in windows versus just reading the ULS files. The advantage is that even if the service that writes to the ULS logs is not working this will continue working.

Microsoft have changed the ETW provider when moving to SP2010 and no new documentation was provided on this. I was able to extract the necessary GUIDS and I have an alpha version that kind of works but there is still a long way from production ready.

There are many other things that I planed to add to this tool especially for monitoring a whole Farm however the time that I can spend is very limited.
